Harvey and Thompson are one of the largest, and the fastest growing, pawnbrokers in the UK.
As they grow, they recognise the need to build the capability of their managers and we were commissioned to help build the platform for subsequent managemnt skills training by taking their male managers through Navigator® (our colleague Julie Kay led the women through the sister programme Springboard®).
The Navigator programme challenged the managers to new ways of thinking and acting that opened up possibilities at work and home and made them more effective.
Some feedback from the participants...
What have you accomplished so far as a result of participating in the Navigator Men’s Development Programme?
- A completed bathroom and as a result a happy wife
- A coaching buddy in the form of **** from Liverpool
- A better outlook on things…more positive!
- A new set of goals…lose weight and get fit!
- In my personal life it has helped me take stock
- My Time Management has improved (Writing down goals)
- As a new manager, I have been excelling myself dealing with awkward situations – and have learned to listen more
Which aspects of the Navigator Men’s Development Programme have been most valuable to you and why?
- Goal setting. This has helped me not only in work but also in my personal life. Don’t get me wrong, it has not been "wow like bombs dropped" but it has helped me to focus more…not just plod along with no sense of direction
- Coaching buddy in the form of **** from Liverpool. Identifying a resource that was there all along in the form of peers, I mean who knows better than they do?
- My listening skills (I now try not to assume)
- I found the guest speakers and Geoff to be fascinating when they spoke of their experiences and what can be achieved with the correct application
- The saying ‘If you think you can or you think you cannot you are right’
- Working with the rest of the group
How will your employer or organisation benefit as a result of you participating on this programme?
- I think they will possess a more focussed individual with a more positive outlook on things.
- Somebody willing to try things they otherwise may not have previously thought was possible
- Someone not so scared of failure and thinking of it as just a beginning rather than an end; a first attempt or step maybe towards their ultimate goal
- Having a motivated manager who will pass on tips and advice to subordinates who in turn possibly more motivated team.
- Hopefully, by having an employee who is always eager to improve himself and the business
