DOMs - Distribution Operations Managers

As a critical part of implementing a strategic reorganisation of the Distribution (water mains to the uninitiated!) function in South Staffordshire Water, we we commissioned to develop and deliver a selection process for five key new roles and then to support the appointed managers through a difficult year as they designed and implemented the new structure, processes and systems.

Using colleagues with expertise in psychometric assessment, we profiled the roles and used a suite of instruments as part of the preselection process (the psychometrics also became useful for the subsequent development process). Criterion referenced interviewing led to five newly appointed managers being faced with a 12 month period during which they were doing their old jobs in parallell with developing the new roles.

Our support package worked on emerging issues from the implementation process, situationally introducing a wide range of management and leadership tools that have proved valuable to the 5 DOMs. In addition, many of the modules developed for the 1st XI programme also added to the capability build.
